School Hours and Schedule

School hours are from 8:55-3:20 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesdays are a minimum day and school hours are from 8:55-1:20. School gates open daily at 8:35 through 8:55 for student arrival. The school office is open daily from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00.

Attendance

Please refer to the attached calendar for student school attendance schedule. Students attend school on days that are lightly shaded. If the day in a non-instructional day, it is marked ‘NI’ and if it a holiday, it is marked with an ‘H’. Students do not attend those days. Reminders to parents about upcoming holidays and vacations will be communicated to parents and guardians via fliers, school messenger and through the classroom teacher. If your child is absent, you will receive a phone call alerting you of the absence. Please call the office to clear the absence and provide the required documentation, if necessary.

Tardies

Students are expected to be at school, on time, every day. The tardy bell rings at 8:55. Students arriving after 8:55 must report to the attendance clerk in the school officefor a tardy slip.

We are striving toward perfect attendance here at Porter. We want to dramatically increase student attendance and reduce the number of tardies and early dismissals. Individual students and classrooms will be rewarded for perfect attendance bimonthly. Perfect attendance means all students are present, on time and do not leave early.

Student Absences

In order for students to reach their full potential, we need to meet their social, emotional and academic needs. Your childs’, absences and early releases, will be entered in POWERSCHOOL, the districts computer system. It is imperative you call the school to verify your childs’ absences. We value your child’s daily school attendance. Their attendance will help them see their value as a contributing member of our school and your class community.

Rainy Day Schedule

On the rare occurrence of a rainy day, students will go into the auditorium on their campus, for pick-up by their teacher. The auditorium doors will open at 8:30 and the front gates will remain closed. Dismissal will be in the quad as usual, but if rain continues students will be released through the auditorium.
